Chicago Industries Expansion
Companies from a wide variety of sectors relocated to, or expanded in Chicago in 2007, making the year prosperous in terms of economic development and expansion.
United Airlines made the decision to move its headquarters downtown to 77 W. Wacker Drive.
Companies in the technology sector have done well in Chicago in 2007. Companies like Navteq, the world's leading navigation software company recently expanded its 550 jobs with 350 additional jobs.
Navteq says that the City of Chicago offers a quality of life unmatched by any other location. Other technology companies relocating or expanding include Navigon Technologies, Infinium and Google's Chicago office.
Foreign Investment
Foreign investment in Chicago is growing as well, with companies including Comfort Audio, Barry Callebaut, Acciona and Hua Mei Capital making Chicago their North American headquarters. In addition, the WBC (World Business Chicago) and the City co-founded a Chicago promotion and business development office in Shanghai to help facilitate relationships with Chinese companies and assist Chicago enterprises interested in doing business in China.
Publications & Accolades
The Financial Times publication, fDi Magazine, named Chicago "City of the Future" for the second time in a row, noting that Chicago is the best big city in which to invest. Site Selection magazine, the nation's top economic development publication, also named Chicago the "Top Metro" for corporate commercial and industrial investment in America for the fifth year out of the past six.
